Sea Wolf Bakers Bargaining Update
/On Tuesday, June 10 our negotiations were canceled by the Employer as they did not have time over the previous week to craft an economic counter proposal addressing wages, retirement, health insurance, and other benefits.
While our Bargaining Team understands the collective bargaining process can be difficult for all parties, we find it frustrating that instead of formal counter-proposals on economics we have mostly been subjected to a narrative about the difficulties that small business owners face. We believe this to be true, but we chose to form a Union to have the ability to address the struggles we face as the people whose labor creates the success of Sea Wolf! The cost of an apartment anywhere near our employer, the cost of groceries, transportation, health insurance, the ability to save for retirement: these are the challenges we struggle with.
We will be holding another Contract Action Team meeting after the next bargaining session on June 17, with date and time to be decided. All Sea Wolf workers who are UFCW 3000 members are encouraged to attend to discuss next steps in winning the best contract possible!
